Scarifying

What is Scarifying and how does it benefit my lawn?

Scarifying a lawn removes accumulated moss, dead grass, and organic matter (“thatch”) that suffocates grass roots, allowing air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the soil. This essential maintenance rejuvenates lawns, reduces disease risks, improves drought tolerance, and encourages thicker, healthier growth.

What is the best tool to use?

For smaller lawns, you can use a spring-tine rake by pulling it vigorously through the grass to remove debris. However, for larger areas, electric scarifiers, which are available at local garden centres or DIY stores, can make the task much easier and less labour-intensive.
